Hi guys,
When You're trying to express sth's Quantity,
Will you somtimes cofused with what expression should be used?
If 'Yes', The following might help you.

(My teacher was teaching this this morning, let's see how much i can remember.XD)

Expression of Quantity==================

A ball of  :
A ball of sth is sth that has(have) a ball shape,
e.g. A ball of wool // A ball of string.

A bit of :
You should know this quite well. It means a small amount.
e.g. A bit of work to do

A blob of :
A small amount of (usually) thick or sticky liquid.
e.g. A blob of glue.

A column of :
A column is a group of people or animals that moves in a long, well-ordered line.
e.g. columns of workers.
OR
It can also be used with something that has a tall, narrow shape.
e.g. columns of smoke.

A dribble of :
A dribble of something is a small amount of it that is falling or dripping somewhere.
e.g. a dribble of water ran down the wall.

A grain of :
A grain of a cereal crop is a seed from it.
e.g. grains of corn
OR
can also be used with a tiny piece of sand or salt.

A gush of /A gust of (similar meaning):
a gush of a liquid or gas , a sudden, rapid flow of it. While A gust of only used with wind.
e.g. a gush of blood.                                         A sudden gust of wind.

/*A gush of pleasure, enthusiasm or confession is a sudden outburst of speech or emotion.*/
/*A gust of anger/happness , a emotioned suddenly and intensely.*/

A heap of :
A lot of something in a untidy arrangement.
e.g. :a heap of paper  //  a heap of food.

A knob of:
A knob is a small amount of butter or lard.
e.g.  a knob of butter

A lump of:
a lump of is a piece of solid subtance of any shape and size.
e.g. lumps of meat.

A mass of:
a mass of things is a large number of them grouped together.
e.g. a mass of paper.

A morsel of:
very small smount of sth. esp. very small piece offood.

when someone is asking for just a few pens how many should you grab for them?

one or two?
actually i'll depend on how many he/she needs.//what he/she is going to do with the pens.
