Dock Landing Ships support amphibious operations including landings via Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC), conventional landing craft and helicopters, onto hostile shores. These ships transport and launch amphibious craft and vehicles with their crews and embarked personnel in amphibious assault operations.


The Anchorage class Dock Landing Ship (LSD) designed to operate as an integral part of a balanced, mobile and modern amphibious strike force. The ship couples a well deck with a flight deck to give greater dimension to the Navy's troop and vehicle lifting capability. Primarily designed to transport pre-loaded heavy landing craft to the shore and discharge them rapidly, the ship is also equipped with machine shops and facilities to provide dry docking and repairs to small boats.

Intrinsic in the well deck operation is a ballasting system that fills the deck with sea water to a depth necessary for loading landing craft such as the LCU and LCAC. The ships are designed to transport and operate heavy landing craft from a large well deck, and have been modified for operations with the Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC). USS Mount Vernon was the first West Coast ship to be modified for operations with the Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC), used for transportation of personnel and equipment for amphibious operations.

Wet well evolutions are facilitated through the use of complex, electro-hydraulically controlled ballasting and deballasting systems. The helicopter landing platform can be used in support of helicopter assaults and logistic operations. The ships' habitability features provide for the berthing, messing and cargo transportation of approximately 300 fully equipped combat troops of the landing force in addition to the 360 crew members assigned. Installed electronic equipment includes air, navigation, and surface search radars, a complete communications suite and an Electronic Emitter Detection System to support the ship's amphibious mission.

Two Anchorage-class LSD-36s will be retired from service by FY 1999.

臺灣海軍 LSD-193 - 旭海艦



旭海艦為海軍向美租購的安克拉治級船塢登陸艦，原名為美軍賓沙克拉（PensacoIa）號，於1971年3月27日正式服役，曾先後派遣至大西洋、地中海、波斯灣、加勒比海及太平洋等地區執行戰鬥任務，最後於1999年9月22日於維吉尼亞州諾褔克市小溪兩棲訓練基地除役，隨即於9月30曰正式移交中華民國海軍，並核定命名旭海軍艦，編號LSD-193；其間經過廠修、航訓、整備等階段後於2000年4月17日自諾褔克市起航，同年6月2日返抵台灣左營。

     所謂LSD（Landing Ship Dock）船塢登陸艦，最大的特色即為船身中後段的船塢在注水後，可讓放置其內的登陸艇或登陸戰車直接駛出；該艦艦長562呎l、艦寬84呎、桅高139呎21吋（吃水16呎），設計最大速率22節（經濟速率12節，為最省油之速率）、棑水量：輕載8600噸，滿載：13700噸。

艦上武裝為2座Mk15 20公厘方陣快炮、6挺50機槍和4座6聯裝Mk36干擾火箭發射器，裝載能力方面，除了374名編制人員外，另外可裝載人員366人，3艘LCU或LCAC、或l8艘LCM6、或9艘LCM8、50輛LVT，甲板上還能裝載l艘LCM6、吊桿上可裝載2艘LCPL和l艘LCVP、航空燃油90噸。

另外，旭海艦上設有兩座起重機原可以吊掛50噸的重物。

193 旭海艦


旭海艦原為美國海軍的安克拉治(Anchorage)級船塢登陸艦"LSD-38 Pansacola"號, 由通用動力公司的昆西城船塢建造,於1969年3月12日開工,7月11日下水,1971年3月27日成軍;同級艦共有5艘,當年造價每艘11,500,000美金。

本級艦之艦身長為 171.29公尺,寬25.6公尺,吃水6.1公尺;輕載排水量8,801噸,滿載排水量14,362噸;艙內裝載航空燃油90噸。 兩座Foster Wheeler鍋爐,兩部De Laval蒸汽渦輪引擎,24,000軸馬力雙軸推進, 速率22節,12節的航程14,800浬. 美軍編制軍官24人,士官兵350人;搭載陸戰隊軍官18人士官兵348人。

"旭海"艦與之前的"中正","鎮海"等二戰製造的LSD一樣可搭載從LCU,LCM到LVT兩棲車輛各式登陸載具,不同的是她還可搭載LACA氣墊登陸艇(但中華民國海軍尚未獲有這項裝備)。

安克拉治級的塢長131.1公尺,寬15.2公尺, 配有兩座50噸級的起重機;船塢中可選擇搭載 18艘LCM-6,或9艘LCM-8,或3艘LCU或50輛LVT,或3艘LACA。

甲板上的吊架還可搭載2艘汽艇與1艘LCVP.。

本艦的武裝為 4門3吋/50倍徑MK33型砲(雙連裝),2挺25公釐Mk38機槍,2座20MM/76MK 15型方陣快砲等輕型防空武器;還有SRBOC MK36型 6管干擾誘餌發射裝置。


火砲管制系統為一具Mk56兩具Mk63兩具AN/SPG 50,作戰系統為SRR-1 衛星通訊接收機,WSC-3(UHF),對空雷達為洛克希德SPS40型E/F波段, 對海雷達為雷神SPS10型G波段,導航為馬可尼LN66型I波段. 本級艦在塢的上方有可移動式的直昇機甲板,但沒有機庫。

"旭海"艦於1999年9月30日自美國海軍退出現役後由中華民國海軍向美軍購入,算是熱艦交船,首任艦長周玉峰上校,於2000年6月1日自美駛抵台灣,6月底成軍. 本艦原定名為"淡海"號後改現名,編號接續"LSD-192鎮海"而為"LSD-193",並且在抵台前就已以低明度塗裝漆上舷號。

本艦與"中和","中平"二艘"新港"級戰車登陸艦構成新一代兩棲艦艇戰力; 台灣海軍原有的兩艘船塢登陸艦"中正"與"鎮海"已分別在1999年及2000年除役。


關於龐然大物的船塢登陸艦在台灣目前守勢作戰中的實用性一向很有爭議,海軍的解釋是目前外島小艇部隊的船艇仍只有依靠船塢艦才能執行裝備運送與回廠維修,顯然與美軍用她來擔任兩棲攻擊的任務是大不相同的。

不過據聞海軍還計劃向美國爭取再獲得一艘同級艦.。
