起初這首歌被英國民歌之父Ewan MacColl選併他C輯的一本介j英國民歌的書中，
英國民歌手Martin Carthy後來又重新再創作。
1966年底，Paul Simon在英國時將它改C成反戰色彩濃厚的歌曲，
並收入他的專輯『Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme』之中，
而後用作電影The Graduate的中插曲(其中的The Sound of Silence是 另一首廣為流傳的歌)。
Simon是猶太美國人，在英國劍橋攻讀文學。他在與 Carthy合作演唱時從Carthy那裡學會了這首歌，
又把自己寫的一首反戰歌曲The Side Of A Hill作為副歌和這首歌混在一起，用對比的手法表達了對和平的渴望。
Art Garfunkel似乎是學數學出身，為副歌作了曲，成為歌中的"頌歌"部分。
兩人在錄音時利用多軌技術把多個聲部疊加在一起，使人聲顯得特g豐富。
Paul Simon 把戰爭的東西和 Scarborough Fair 的意象整個嵌合在一起，造成了非常超現實的效果：
一場無望的愛、
一些不可能達成的任務、
一場大家都忘記為什麼要作戰的戰爭、
跟一個睡著了沒聽到號角聲的士兵…
這整首歌傳達的意境，超越了Where Have All The Flowers Gone 那樣單線性的敘述方式。
在編曲上，他們第一次使用了中世紀的鍵盤樂器，聽起來非常典雅、古色古香。
再聽他們的和聲，我們就會知道 Roy Halee的功夫有多麼了得，
想想他們是兩個人一起在錄音間唱這首歌，不得不更佩服他們的才華。
【個人感想】
這是我非常喜歡的一首歌，
在夜晚聆聽時會更有感覺…
整首歌輕得呇陪奎q，只有質量，輕得像是“生命中不能承受的輕”。
歌詞中最後一段唱到，
